Poker After Dark has to be one of the most popular, if not the most popular poker television show. They’ve recently released their new set of episodes for 2011 and it was a special $100K buy-in event. If you don’t watch the show six players generally buy-in to the game for $20K, but this past week the six players needed to buy-in for $100K. This meant that the winner of the sit and go would walk away with $600K in cold hard cash. With such a high buy-in you knew that the line-up for the week was going to be crazy and I feel that Poker After Dark got some great talent to show up.

The six players that decided to play in the event included Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey, Erick Lindgren, John Juanda, Phil Galfond and Huck Seed. All of these players have insane poker resumes and it was definitely going to be a fun week to watch due to the fact each player bought into the game with $100K rather then $20K. You don’t typically see Ivey playing on these types of poker shows because the stakes are too small, but he made an exception for this special event.

The first two players to be knocked out this past week on Poker After Dark were John Juanda and Erick Lindgren. Juanda went out against Dwan with an A/Q that didn’t end up hitting the board. In the next hand Lindgren was eliminated against Dwan as well when his low pocket pair didn’t hold up against Dwan’s two over cards. Dwan was also able to knockout Galfond in 4th place later on in the week, but Dwan’s lucked stopped after he eliminated Galfond.

Huck Seed ended up going all-in with an A/6 and Dwan made the call with a Q/J, which at the time was a little loose. Dwan ended up hitting a jack on the turn, but it didn’t matter since Seed had already hit an ace on the flop. The battle between Huck Seed and Phil Ivey for the title and $600K was extremely short lived. The two players only ended up playing three hands before Seed won the match and the monster prize pool.

The last hand of the tournament Seed went all-in with pocket eights and Ivey decided to make the call with pocket sixes. Ivey would need to hit a six or a long shot straight/flush in order to beat Suck and stay in the match. When the flop came there were two eights, which meant Huck now had four eights and the hand locked up. I hope Poker After Dark uses the $100K buy-in format again as it makes the action a lot more intense and it seems the players try a lot harder then if it were only a $20K buy-in.

Full Tilt was really busy on Sunday, as they ran all three major tournaments plus had the Mini-FTOPS Main Event. Two tournaments ended up with prize pools of over $1M and there was plenty of money to be won right before the holidays. We’re going to take a look at how all four of the major tournaments at Full Tilt Poker went this Sunday instead of just the typical three events.

Full Tilt Sunday Mulligan

•	Entrants – 1264 / Prize Pool – $252,800

The prize pool in the Full Tilt Sunday Mulligan was over a quarter million dollars, but this was the smallest of the four big events running over the weekend. Taylor Paur won 1st place and won the entire prize of $55K for his efforts since there wasn’t any deal made in the Sunday Mulligan. LuckyML97ft won 2nd place for $35K and MostlyNutz won $25K for taking down 3rd place. It was a great start to Sunday, but there were definitely better tournaments to be playing in this weekend.

Full Tilt Sunday Brawl

•	Entrants – 2621 / Prize Pool – $524,200

Just like the Sunday Mulligan, players didn’t end up making any deal in the Sunday Brawl. With over $500K up for grabs the top 3 players were rewarded nicely for their play throughout the tournament. Tight-Man1 took home the grand prize of $106K for finishing in 1st place this weekend. Paranoik will have an extra $68K for the holidays after taking 2nd place and Ringlesdorf will be pleased with winning over $50K for finishing 3rd.

Full Tilt $1M Guarantee

•	Entrants – 2092 / Prize Pool – $1,255,200

Generally Full Tilt only hosts a $750K Guarantee, but this week there was a $1M Guarantee. This helped the prize pool reach a huge amount and with only roughly 2K players in the tournament it was a great event to play in. Dlanger610 secured a 1st place finish and won a massive $230K prize. Lily Mizrachi won 2nd place for $141K and for those of you that don’t know. Lily is the wife of “The Grinder”. It was awesome to see Lily do so well in the tournament and I promise you it won’t be the last time you see her name at the top of a major event. Euthanaces also left with nearly $100K for finishing in 3rd place and there is no doubt that the $1M Guarantee was a huge success.

Full Tilt Mini-FTOPS Main Event

•	Entrants – 16,910 / Prize Pool – $1,183,700

With over 16K players in the MiniFTOPS Main Event it wasn’t a tournament for players without patience. It took a long time to play, but in the end I’m sure everyone who made money is extremely happy. There was a 5-player deal in the event, which is kind of weird since there was also a 5-player deal over at PokerStars this Sunday. The top 5 players are as followed including how much each of them managed to win.

•	1st Place – Frra87 $118K
•	2nd Place – GROMAZ $101K
•	3rd Place – Samulap $99K
•	4th Place – Jrosek9 $83K
•	5th Place – KingJackNine $75K

Party Poker isn’t the biggest online poker room out there, but they never skimp out on their promotions, especially when it’s Christmas time. They have already released several holiday promotions including the new Five Star Poker Challenge, which will take place throughout the entire month of December. The promotion rewards players with daily prizes, so it doesn’t matter if you start playing halfway through the month, as you’ll still have the same chance of winning a daily prize as anyone else.

Every single day of the month in December, players will have the chance to earn a seat into a $5K freeroll. All you need to do is earn 5 Points in a single day, which shouldn’t take more than a couple hours, and you’ll earn a seat into a $5K freeroll the following day. Your freeroll ticket is only available for the freeroll on the following day, so you need to ensure that you don’t miss it or else your ticket will expire.

If you plan on playing online poker over the holidays, you should make sure you earn 5 Party Points on five different days of the month. For those of you that earn 5 Party Points on 5 different days this month, you’ll be entered into a massive $50K Grand Finale Freeroll that’ll take place on January 2nd 2011. With a little over two weeks left in December, there is still plenty of time to try and earn a seat into the Grand Finale.

Earning 5 Party Points in a single day will only take a few minutes for cash game players that play on low limit tables or higher. If you play micro limits it might take up to 30/60 minutes to earn the 5 FTP’s. Tournament players will also earn the points quickly although it might take a few hours if you’re playing in micro limit sit and go tournaments.

Party Poker will also be offering jackpots to players who happen to win multiple freeroll tournaments throughout the month. This isn’t an easy feat, but the prizes are huge for the few lucky players that might end up earning more than one freeroll victory throughout December. The jackpots are as followed.

•	Win Two Freerolls – $5K Jackpot
•	Win Three Freerolls – $50K Jackpot
•	Win Five Freerolls – $500K Jackpot

This is definitely a great promotion for players with limited bankrolls, as the requirements are simple. Even micro limit players will have an excellent chance of earning 5 Party Points every single day they play poker. Since the promotion itself doesn’t cost any money, anything that you make in the freerolls will be all profit. Party Poker is handing out plenty of Christmas Cash and you don’t want to miss out so sign-up for a Party Poker account today.

PokerStars, the world’s largest poker room, recently upgraded their software. Thus far, the changes aren’t significant. They included a focus on fonts, the “Find Seat” feature, volume sliders, brackets for tournaments, their “Register Any” function and a slew of other small changes. We will take a look at the aforementioned below.

Font Changes: Pokerstars made some changes to their game fonts. The aim was to make them easier for those with color-blindness to read and to give them a more distinguishable appearance. The fonts, ring players will see after being wait listed, will be bold, blue and in italics. When a ring game player is being seated, the fonts will appear bold, red and also in italics. Tournament players will see a “State” column in bold, red and italics.

Find Seat: The Find Seat feature has been changed a bit. Most of the changes here, have occurred on the back-end. It’s now possible to easily join 24 tables. The same is true for swapping tables.

Volume Sliders: There is now a master volume slider. It controls all of the site’s sound, There are also volume sliders for each particular sound. Both can be found by looking by clicking the Options tab and then Sound Settings.

Heads Up Tournament Brackets: PokerStars.com can now display Heads Up tournament brackets directly from the Tourney Lobby. These brackets will show the opponent’s pairings and also how the tournament is progressing. In many ways, this is akin to how a sports tournament brackets are drawn. As of now, the bracket structure will only be made available after the field has been whittled down to 64 players. This is currently a Beta stage feature. It will first be used in Heads Up tournament play.

Register to Any: The major change here involves the ability to use the ‘Register to Any’ function without disabling the Auto-open function when the Tournament Lobby is opened. This does several things, including decreasing the amount of clicks required to join Sit and Gos through the ‘Register to Any’ function or the ‘Registered in Tournaments’ tab.

Miscellaneous Changes: Additional updates made to the software include changes in the font which appears in the dialog texts. It is now easier to view and read in Windows. The window which holds the Detached Chat feature can now be detached from the table by pressing a button. Another pretty cool feature is the “Find Seat” pop-up button. It automatically pop-ups when a person has used the “When Seat Me” feature and it has failed. The former will direct a player to a table identical to one already filled.

The three major tournaments at Full Tilt Poker this Sunday played out very similarly to the PokerStars events. The only deal that was made was in the Full Tilt $750K Guarantee with the top two players deciding to cut a deal. We generally see more deals in the major Sunday tournaments, but this week we seen a lot of players wanting to try and win the entire 1st place prize. The prize pools are much smaller at Full Tilt, but the playing fields are also much smaller, which gives you a much better chance of walking away with a bigger prize.

Full Tilt Sunday Mulligan

•	Entrants – 1214 / Prize Pool – $242,800

The Full Tilt Sunday Mulligan boats the smallest prize pool of the major tournament every weekend, but there is only about 1200 players to beat each week. If you play a lot of MTT’s then you know that with only 1200 players, your chances of winning a nice prize is fairly good. If you’re new to the major poker tournaments, you’re going to want to try out the Sunday Mulligan. Unleashed66 took home 1st place honours this weekend as well as the $53K prize pool. Kenny Hallaert won 2nd place ($33K) with 3rd place going to 4everunknown ($24K).

Full Tilt Sunday Brawl

•	Entrants – 2616 / Prize Pool – $523,200

This week seen the Full Tilt Sunday Brawl surpass the $500K mark by only a little bit, as the playing field was only a little over 2600 players. As we mentioned earlier, there wasn’t a deal in this tournament. Keith Ferrera won the 1st place title this week and won a $106K prize for his efforts. Bahbak Oboodi won $68K for finishing in 2nd place this weekend and Magic_AND_Ken won $50K for finishing the Sunday Brawl in 3rd place. We should see the prize pool increase a bit over the next few weeks, so if winning over $100K sounds good, you should try qualifying for the tournament this week at Full Tilt.

Full Tilt $750K Guarantee

•	Entrants – 4213 / Prize Pool – $842,600

Out of the major tournaments held at Full Tilt over the weekend, the $750K Guarantee was the only one with a deal. When the action reached heads-up the two players decided to cut a deal and then play for the remaining prize pool. Ravagee started the heads-up battle with less chips, but ended up finishing in 1st place and won $113K. Cobalt56 had a nice chip lead to start the heads-up battle, but Cobalt ended up finishing in 2nd place and won $125K. JoyHappyJoy I’m sure was ecstatic to finish in 3rd place this weekend in the Full Tilt $750K Guarantee, especially with the $58K prize pool that went along with 3rd place honours.

The 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is inching closer and closer, which means that PokerStars is beginning to release tons of promotions leading up to the event. PokerStars has been trying to make the PCA one of the best live events in the world, so you can be sure that they don’t mind taking a bit of a loss in order to make sure plenty of players are in the events. One of the new tournaments this year at the PCA will be the Fish & Chips Showdown, which will require players to not only be good at poker, but also at fishing.

The Fish & Chip Showdown will run for two days and involve a fishing aspect and poker aspect. The fishing aspect will count towards 1:3 of your final score while the poker aspect will count towards the remaining 2:3 of your score. Even if you’re not a great fisher you can still have an excellent chance at taking down 1st place. The event will begin on January 7th with the fishing aspect taking place from 8:00 – 12:00.

The poker aspect of the event will also start on the 7th, but not until 17:00. The players will all play poker until the final table has been determined at which point the action will stop until the next day. On the 8th of January the final table will be played out and the winners party will begin at 21:00. Everyone that participates in the tournament is welcome to the winner’s party after the event to take part in the festivities and watch the winner’s ceremony.

If you want to play in the Fish & Chips Showdown all you need to do is try and qualify on PokerStars. There are going to be plenty of satellite tournaments at PokerStars over the next month offering packages to this event. Not only will you receive a free buy-in to the event, but you’ll also receive free accommodation at the Atlantis Resort, which is where everyone will be staying for the 2011 PCA. If you’ve always wanted to play poker with the best players in the world you’ll have that chance in the New Year.

If you do qualify for the event at PokerStars you’ll want to make sure you visit their website to read over all of the rules for this special event. There are quite a number of rules that need to be followed during the fishing aspect of this event, so if you qualify for this event it’s imperative that you spend some time reading over all of the rules. It’d also be a good idea to print the rules and bring them with you to the tournament, so you don’t forget anything.

Recently, online poker giant Full Tilt Poker announced some big news for those of you with Smartphones or high tech mobile devices.
What is Rush Poker?
So what exactly is Rush Poker in the first place? Rush Poker is a form of online poker released by Full Tilt several months ago. Basically, you have an extra option to “Quick Fold” your hand which immediately places you at another table with new players. You get a new hand in a matter of seconds. You can literally fly through hundreds of starting hands before you want to actually play a hand. It’s a fun and exciting way to play online poker.

How to Play Rush Poker Mobile?

1) Sign up at Full Tilt Poker.
2) Deposit money if you want to play “real money”.
3) Download the Android application or navigate your mobile browser to http://mobile.fulltiltpoker.com
4) Login and begin playing.

What does this mean for Mobile Poker?
This is the first real effort by a big online poker site to get mobile poker off the ground. Some people have doubts about how it will work with connectivity issues in play. Imagine having a huge hand and losing signal for a little bit, forcing you to fold a winning hand. I’m sure there are issues but Full Tilt Poker launching Rush Poker Mobile is the first step of many to making mobile poker mainstream.

Play Poker Anywhere
Rush Poker Mobile offers something completely unique to the poker community. Now, no matter where you are or what time it is, you can play Full Tilt Poker on your phone. Imagine taking long road trips and playing poker the whole time. Imagine grinding at the poker table for hours upon end while you are in a boring presentation.

Full Tilt Poker was definitely the place to be this weekend, as they were finishing up the FTOPS XVIII. The 2-day event and the main event were both played this weekend and there was millions up for grabs. If you missed out on the action you’ll be able to play in the regular line-up of Full Tilt Poker tournaments this coming weekend. FTOPS XVIII is now over so all of the regularly scheduled tournaments will be running again this weekend. With plenty of satellite tournaments running throughout the week you’ll want to make sure you sign-up as soon as possible.

FTOPS XVIII Main Event

The FTOPS XVIII Main Event had a total of 5023 players with a buy-in of $600+$40. Many people qualified for the event through satellite tournaments, but the prize pool still need to match the buy-in. With the amount of players in the event the prize pool was slightly over $3 million. The top 3 players made a deal in this event and I don’t blame them, especially considering the amount of money on the line. JHoWn ended up winning the tournament after the deal was made and took home a bit over $411K. Hilyaki finished the main event in 2nd place and won $337K while ReifesEisen finished in 3rd place after the deal was made and won $380K. ReifesEisen had more chips then Hilyaki when the deal was cut, which is why the prizes are as they are.

FTOPS XVIII 2-Day Event

There was also a massive 2-day event held at the end of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series XVIII and it was a huge success. There was a huge buy-in of $2000+$100 for this tournament, which meant the prize pool was $2,176,000, as 1088 players signed up. With such a small playing field and huge prize pool this was one of the best online poker tournaments this year. If you managed to qualify for the tournament through a satellite then you were extremely lucky, as they were hard to come by. Tennisassxy won 1st place, but this was after a 3-way deal was cut between the final three players. Tennisassxy won $332K, Michael Hull won $342K for 2nd place and log1c07 won $354K for 3rd place. The deal worked out for 2nd and 3rd place this time around, but I’m sure nobody’s complaining.

There was over $5 million on the line this weekend in these two tournaments alone at Full Tilt Poker, but there were also a few other events with 6-7 figure prize pools. After a great showing at all of the FTOPS XVIII events over the past couple weeks I expect the Sunday Majors to be packed next weekend at Full Tilt Poker.

After watching the action from the World Series of Poker final table, I had an itch to enter a large tournament this weekend and PokerStars was exactly where I wanted to be. With a handful of huge MTT’s being held every Sunday, PokerStars is the poker room you want to play with on Sundays. There is millions of dollars exchanging hands on Sundays at PokerStars and you may even get to play against one of the PokerStars Pros.

PokerStars Sunday 500

•	Entrants – 1039 / Prize Pool – $519,500

The PokerStars Sunday 500 went over 1000 entrants this weekend, which brought it slightly over the $500K guaranteed prize pool and ensured there wasn’t going to be an overlay. Out of the 3 major Sunday poker tournaments at PokerStars, the Sunday 500 is the only event that didn’t end up having a deal made on the final table. Pdrsn8 took down the tournament and won the entire 1st place prize of $89,665. AmazingErvin and Jeff Gressard ended up taking down 2nd and 3rd place this week with Ervin winning $64K and Gressard earning $49K.

PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up

•	Entrants – 4853 / Prize Pool – $970,600

The Sunday Warm-Up at PokerStars this weekend was massive and almost broke 5000 players, which would have brought the prize pool to over $1 million. I’m sure it won’t be long before we reach 5000 players in this tournament, as it’s been growing in popularity amongst players. The top 3 players all made a deal in this tournament and it ensured that each of the 3 players would walk away with over $100K for their day of work. First place went to LeComptedMC ($120K), second place went to Unicum Next ($110K) and third place went to Bremers ($114K).

PokerStars Sunday Million

•	Entrants – 8260 / Prize Pool – $1,652,000

There was also a huge turnout for the PokerStars Sunday Million this weekend and another 3-way deal. The event was a long grind this weekend, but there is no doubt that it was absolutely worth it for the players that cashed. NickDandolos ended up winning 1st place in the tournament after the deal was made between the final 3 players and he won $195K. Jason Strasser won 2nd place and took home $185K while 3rd place went to Mike McStott along with the $163K.

With over $3 million won in these three tournaments yesterday, you definitely don’t want to miss the action next week. With winter coming for most of us in the United States and Canada you can bet the # of entrants and prize pools in these tournaments will only get bigger until the summer again when they tend to have less players.

Full Tilt wasn’t as busy as usual this weekend because of Halloween, but there was still a ton of money to be won. If you missed the action this week, you’ll want to make sure you check out Full Tilt this week. There are plenty of satellite tournaments all week long in the poker room where you’ll be able to earn a seat into one of the major events for a fraction of the normal buy-in. There is always well over $1 million in prize money to be won at Full Tilt on Sundays, so make sure you try playing in one of them while you watch football next weekend.

Full Tilt Sunday Mulligan

There were a total of 1228 players in the Full Tilt Sunday Mulligan this past Sunday, which made the prize pool $245,600. The winner of the event was Zuggiolino, who ended up taking home just under $50K. Lalapaloolala won 2nd place ($39K) and 3rd place went to Fiufiji ($24.8K). The buy-in for this event is $200+$16, but there are plenty of ways to earn a seat into the event with as little as a few dollars throughout the week.

Full Tilt Sunday Brawl

The Full Tilt Sunday Brawl attracted 2629 players this weekend and had a huge prize pool of $525,800. Since there was no deal made in the event, the 1st place winner won a little over $100. MonkeyBudgie ended up winning the tournament with Ply100 taking down second place for about $69,000. 3rd place went to Meireles23 this weekend for $51K. It was a great turnout and the prize pool easily exceeded the guaranteed amount.

Full Tilt $750K Guarantee

ChickFace took down the $750K guaranteed event this weekend and won $120,160. Eyes7475 won 2nd place for $106K and 3rd place was won by PokerRaver for $55K. The event had just short of 4000 people in it this weekend, which brought the prize pool to just under $800K. There wasn’t an overlay, but there really never is in the Full Tilt $750K guarantee. This is one of the top 3 events of the week in the online poker world, so if you’re looking for a challenging multi-table tournament that could change your life, you’re going to want to try this tourney out.

There are also a couple other big tournaments offered on the weekends at Full Tilt Poker with smaller buy-ins. If you want to try playing in some smaller events first you should definitely give it a shot. If you win some money in the smaller events you can use some of your profits to buy-in to some of the tournaments above.
